About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

Skywatch Friday

For today's submission I've posted a photograph I took in November, 2006. We were driving a narrow road on the way to the market town of Marlborough in England when John had to stop and check his map for directions. I looked out the window and saw this tree looking so stark against the grey November sky. I loved the look of the bare trees, all craggy and gnarly. We don't seem to have these types of trees here in Canada.

Nice shot and it is unusual looking. I wonder what it looks like in the summer.

This is a grand and noble tree. You have captured it beautifully. It's very grand with that dramatic sky. God bless, and thanks for stopping by!

Hey Leslie: This is my first visit to your post. I retired from 32 years of school nursing in 2005. I'm a widow also and stay quite busy but also like quiet time at my farm house. When is your grandaughter due? What a joyful event!
Cool looking tree in your photo! I agree with Sandy, it looks almost noble.

I love the look of that tree. It look strong, but yet at the same time reminds me of something in a creepy type movie...like it could easily come to life. Great photo.

We have a similar thing here in Detroit, it is described perfectly by you Leslie, "all craggy and gnarly."

Only ours isn't a tree and lays around all day on our futon. And no it's not the bear killer dog.

Peace

That tree reminds me of a very old Oak tree. There are several I drive past here in our area that I know to be Oaks, so that is my only reference point.

Wonderful picture.

Hi,
I had to see this tree as Dot had told me that it is very similar to one of the pictures on my own Skywatch and I can see what she means.I must admit I've got a thing about trees and this is just beautiful!

I too like these grand trees. Sadly, sometimes it is a sign that the tree has stopped living but is still standing, usually hosting parasitic plants that give it the appearance of being alive still. Nature is very clever.

Not having lived far from Marlborough and having travelled through there for over 30 years. I've probably pondered that same tree. Small world, isn't it, Leslie?

Is that a kudzu tree? It is cool

Gorgeous pic - that's my favourite kind of sky shot - a stark tree silhouetted against a winter sky. Thanks for the link, BTW - I've just added you to my blogroll, too. Have a lovely weekend!

I love the fractal aspect of naked trees. This one is particularly fascinating. Halloween-ish? Wonderful photograph. My Sky Watch is here. Thank you.
